I can only speculate as to their source of supply, if indeed they did carry these arms for so long. The Federals themselves seem the most convenient source and were accommodating enough to supply the 1st Texas with arms ļ I have a few more sources concerning these weapons, two of the most descriptive are the following:

Robertson County Arms - We have that Robertson county has employed $3,500 for the purchase of arms, one hundred of which was raised by individual donation and twenty five hundred by the county commissaries - a commendable expenditure - a devotion that assures of their interest in our cause, and what is more gratifying, a belief that valorous men are ready to raise those arms, if necessary, in defense of their country.

Robertson Five Shooters ¡V Lt. D. U. Barziza has shown us the muster roll of this excellent company. We find that it numbers sixty-four enrolled members. Each man is provided with a five shooting rifle, Colt¡¦s improved pattern, and that the company has at its disposal, 27,000 ball cartridges, and 27,000 percussion caps. The officers are Captain Wm. P. Townsend, D. U. Barziza 1st Lieutenant, Ben Turner, 2d Lieutenant, and P.S. Wood, 3d Lieutenant. The company has two or three wagons and mule teams to transport baggage at their disposal whenever called out. Gov. Clark has promised to call it into service among the first companies that go to the war. We have not heard of a better equipped company.
