Does the stencil seperate into a G and a 9? It does look like common brass stencils which can still be purchased. It does not look like a sutler provided brass stencil which was commonly used by Federal troops. I have never seen a brass stencil with Confederate ID. If you want to read a lot of fiction, surf on e-bay. Hope you didn't pay too much for it.
