Thanks, here's where the real mystery comes in. While my grandfather did not mention a soldiers name, he told my uncle that the owner of these guns was with Custer out west, at the time of Little Big Horn, he was not in the battle, but near by. I don't know if that is true or my uncle is confusing Custer's 7th Mich.Cav.with Custer's US 7th Cav.

I did some searching of Little Big Horn muster rolls and other nearby units, and no Goodells were out there. The only other possibility would be for me to find out the names of all the ladies these gents married. Maybe the guns came from the other side of the family. Or identifing the Colt pistol may push me in the right direction.

I'll be driving past General Custer's statue tomorrow morning in Monroe Mich, if I can get him off his horse maybe he'll tell me what I need to know.LOL....

Thanks for all the help, I'm going to get some of those books.
