Katcher relies on one source for his "red cross" badge that I know of and it's Union. I've never seen anything from the Confederate side that supports it. Then again, with over 5,000 books published by the veterans after the war, (and lord konws how many published by their descendants in recent years) I've a lot of reading ahead of me.
