Dave...thanks very very much. Were the blacksmiths regular soldiers or were they civilians who were hired to accompany cavalry troops?

For example, when John H. Morgan made his raids into Kentucky and Ohio did he have a wagon with them to transport the smithing equipment or did they rely on local blacksmiths to do their work either by force or by paying for the service.
