"Roadmaster's cars"

I would appreciate any information on "roadmaster's cars". My interest comes from the following excerpt taken from William D. Bickham's "Rosecrans' Campaign with the Fourteenth Army corps, or the Army of the Cumberland"

"...the two Generals had established their headquarters in the grove by the side of a rough moss-covered rock, which served for lounges and fireplace. A pair of roadmasteer's cars, like ambualtory daguerreian establishments, were drawn up in front, and quarters for the night were provided within."

This was near Nolensville at the start of the Stone's River campaign.

My Thanks & GOD's Blessings
