Further to my note of yesterday I can offer a further item of information. On page 550 of the very excellent "Confederate Rifles & Muskets" by Murphy & Madaus there is a statement that 400 of the Remington/Maynard conversions were held in store at the Baton Rouge Arsenal on 10 October 1860. It further notes that some of these were issued to the 6th La. On page 549 two Remington/Maynards are illustrated, both being cut-down versions. Taylor's regiment was the 8th La therefore it is not beyond the bounds of possibility that they too received some from the stock held. Again, I hope this helps.
