According to "Artillery and Ammunition of the Civil War" by
Warren Ripley pg 175 : a Houston newspaper account "a very pretty little breechloading gun pre3sented by Beast ( MaJ. Gen Ben F Butler )...........A confederate shell exploded resulted in the gunner losing part of his hand and carring away a part of the breech and spoiling the gun considerably
the book then says any afiliation with the gen is speculation and must wait supporting evidence
