The contractor who made that sword was most likely the Providence Tool Co. They had a large armory, and also supplied contract riflemuskets to the US government; they supplied 70,000 under contract, but probably sold some to individual states as well. They were manufactured in their own shops. They also supplied bayonets and other other implements for subcontractors. After the war they manufactured Peabody rifles and carbines.
