"Rag-tag" Confederate soldiers

The same pretty much applies to uniforms, as well.

The AOT was well-equipped early in the war, and again late in the war, with some relatively short period of ragged clothing in-between (basically early 1863). With massive transhipments of supplies from Bermuda, beginning in late Spring 1863, the AOT was rather rapidly re-equipped. (Note that this is also where the massive influx of Austrian weapons came from, on the same transhipments).

The ANV was fairly well uniformed up until near the end (Spring of 1865) when seige conditions predominated.

The myth of the rag-tag Confederate fails on clothing, as well as arms, except for *perhaps* upper Trans-Mississippi units (I haven't looked too closely at those units). Lower Trans-Mississippi units were well uniformed, though sometimes unorthodox in their uniform choices.
