Civil War Musket

A relative has a supposedly civil war muzzle loading rifle that has been passed down to him thru several generations. The weapon appears to be in excellent condition.

I am completely unfamilar with "guide lines" which would help to indentify where this rifle was manufacturered, whether issued by the Federal or Confederate Governments.

Would someone please adivse as to what info I should post on this site to help identify this relic. Should measurements of the barrel, stock, etc be included.

Based on the location of this family (Georgia) the rifle was likly used by Confederates. The individual has no knowledge of the names of family members who served in the Civil War. The surname is very common and without christian names...the research is formable.

Thanks for any advise.
