modle 1874 carbine/sabre

I have come across a couple of what I believe are CW pieces that belonged to an older gentleman that died recently. My mother in law has them and would like some info.
One is a calvary sabre. Metal scabbard, leather handle very much intact, blade in very good condition. Rusty, but not pitted very much. The gentleman had purchased it about 70 years ago, when he was six years old, for $4.00 from a pawn shop probably in GA or FL or AL. He never used it as a toy and I was very impressed with it's condition.
On the blade are the mint markings. On the front is a small P . On the back, a small crown over a W over 04 then a space and right above the hilt a corwned D . On the side a large crown. Here is the good part. Stamped on the side of the hilt are these letters - 1.1.M.2.G.A.66.

The other piece is a carbine. I believe it is chambered in 45/70 cal. It has a trapdoor action. On the action I can read U.S. Springfield next to an eagle, also U.S. Modle 1873. The markings that were over the top of the barrel just ahead of the action are unreadable. The Serial # is 412221.
This rifle has all of it's pieces intact; sights, saddle rings, barrel rings, and stock. However it is in poor condition.
Any information on these pieces would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
