6 lb. cannonball

I recently purchased a 6 lb. cannonball at a flea market. I am very cautious when buying "authentic" relics at flea markets, but due to the price I couldn't pass it up. I inspected it very carefully and it has the right dimensions. It is 3.5" in diameter and weighs 6 pounds. The only thing I wasn't sure about at the time was a seam around the ball. The seam is barely visible, but it is there. My question is, should a Civil War era 6 lb. cannonball have a seam or not ? The ball doesn't have a fuse. Any help from you artillery folks would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !!
