"Confederate Rifles and Muskets" by Murphy and Madaus notes that they were armed with flintlock muskets early in the war. Frederick Todd's "American Military Equipage" states that in October, 1862 (after the battle of Perryville, I believe), they exchanged their "old guns" for captured Enfields and that Austrian rifles were also issued.
