Hello Doyle,
Thanks for your input. I agree with you about the Richmond Depot type jackets being their standard issue alter. From what I have read, most companies had their own uniforms from their home towns or what have you until later when as a part of regimental formations they were issued govt issue uniforms, i.e. Richmond Depot, Columbus Depot, Atlanta Depot, Montgomery (Ala) Depot, etc.. The Military Company of Historians had a fantastic article in the Jounal of the Company of Military Historians about C.S. Govt issue uniforms. From what they said our boys were a lot better uniformed than was at once thought. But I did hear one time that the initial regimental uniform issued to the Palmetto sharpshooter had green trim. I wish I knew. My g.g.grandfather and three of his brothers served in the Palmetto SharpShooters, and another brother stayed in the 5th S.C. when Micah Jenkins formed the PSS. Only one brother out of the five survived the war. Three died in 1862. What a terrible year that must have been for those parents, my g.g.g. grandparents. The fourth one, my g.g.grandfather, John Warren White, was shot through the neck in an effort to retake Ft. Harrison during the siege of Petersburg, Va. (the yankees renamed it Ft. Bonham)
Take care,
