Drew,

None of the Hardee flags of any issue were depot made it seems. The Buckner/Hardee flags made in Bowling Green, KY in January, 1862 were done by a local sewing circle including Mrs. Buckner and the lady that rented her house to Albert Sidney Johnston as his headquarters, Mrs. Samuel Blackburn.

I have the name of the dry goods dealer in Corinth, MS that sold the bulk cloth to an army QM to make the May, 1862 issues and these were probably done by a soldier with tailoring skills. Jacob Gall of a Louisiana regiment, was designated as Hardee's tailor in May, 1863 and in September he made 34 flags for Hardee's Corps which was then serving with the Army of Tennessee while Hardee was running the parole camps in Alabama and Mississippi.

We do not know who made the Spring or Fall, 1864 issues to Cleburne's Division but Little Rock sign painter Augustus Larantree painted the battle honors on the flags of Govan's Brigade since he was serving in that command at the time.

Someday hopefully the names of these men will come to light.

Greg Biggs
