The 12th Georgia did attack between 8AM-9AM on May 3rd, 1863. They attacked slightly to the right of the 124th Pennsylvania Infantry regiment, broke through and then was hit by the 102nd NY, 29th PA, 125th PA and the 66th Ohio.
Now Mahone launched his attack just to the right where the 12th Georgia did. Mahone's Virginia brigade was just to the left of the "Plank Road". Kershaw, Semmes and Wofford were to the right of "Plank Road". Half of Wofford's Georgia Brigade was on the "Orange Turnpike".
When Mahone attacked he was facing the 147th PA and 28th PA. I am sure once the 12th Georgia fell back, those Union regiment went back to the breastworks.
Maybe the 12th Georgia lost a flag and out of pride did not want to write the truth. Mahone's Virginia brigade is very suspect as well. They were the only regiments in that area.
Well another puzzling story.
