Tenn flag for Greg Biggs

Greg, I might have something for you on the (11th Tennessee Cavalry), (Union). I was reading the 8th Virginia Cavalry's regimental history book and on page, 46, it had this to say.

"On 21 Feb, 1864, Colonel Davis (11th Tenn Cav, Union) was surprised, five miles east of the Cumberland Gap. Colonel Davis was wounded and the 8th Va Cav claimed they captured 256 Pows, 8 wagons and 100 horses. 75 members of the 11th Tenn Cav, escaped. The 8th Va Cav reported 3 killed and 7 wounded.

The Confederates called the battle "Wyerman's Mill, Tennessee". Aka "Gibson Mill" (The Union would call it).

The very next day (22 Feb, 1864), "Half a mile in the rear of the enemy, the 8th Va Cav captured 175 more Yanks". I do not know if they were the 11th Tenn Cav (Union) but some of them had to have been. If 75 escaped and the next day 175 were captured, that would indicate another Union regiment or companies were there as well.

I also have in the 8th Va Cav's regimental history book on this.

"5 March, 1864, "Panther Spring Gap", the 3rd Tenn Cav (Union) was surprised and they scattered. 100 were captured and all camp equipment. No say on flags.

Well I hope that helps, if I come across anything on Tennessee flags North/South I will keep posting them!

I am currently trying to read all of the Virginia Cavalry regimental histories. I am back in America, my father is in the hospital and thus I came back on emergency leave. I will be here another week and then return back to Afghanistan.

Have a good day, Greg!
