Comparison of English 49th Foot Guide flag circa 1842 thread count 32-34 threads per square inch. Samples taken across different points on flag. Richmond Second National circa 1863 thread count of white field at three sample locations 35 threads per square inch. Based on my first hand observations very diffult to distinguish difference, density appeared to be same and if my counting was accurate between a twenty year span of the making of each flag thread count almost identical at upper limit.
