Col. Perrin's captured flags at Gettysburg

I found in David G. Martin's book "Gettysburg, July 1st", (1995/1996) several sources on captured Union flags.

On page 242, "Colonel Perrin, captured at least Four Flags." "A member of the 14th South Carolina captured the "Large Flag" of the 149th Pennsylvania. "Another captured a smaller flag that he kept for himself, he was later shot and killed and the flag was found in his jacket."

"The two nicest flags the brigade captured were General Reynold's I Corps Headquarters standard, and "A Beautiful" flag of the 104th New York, "Wadsworth Guards".

David G. Martin's source was this: Perrin, "A Little more light on Gettysburg". That is the book I found way back in 2001 at the Library of Congress.

Also, on page 382, James T. Lumkin, Company C. 55th Virginia captured the National Flag from the 149th Pennsylvania. Sergeant Frank D. Price, 42nd Mississippi, captured the State Flag of the 149th Pennsylvania.

Now those two flags are very known, I am thinking that after those flags were lost, the 149th Pennsylvania probably broke out their camp flag. It would have been larger then the standard National Flag and State Flag. Just a thought, because that is Three flags lost by the 149th Pennsylvania. Mr. Martin wrote in his book that the 149th Pennsylvnia lost all their flags and was the only Union regiment on July 1st to have done so.

Have a great weekend,
