Article about the (Captured) 76th Ohio Flags

This stand of colors was carried through all the major battles of the western theater including Mission Ridge, but the regimental flag was captured at Ringgold Gap in Georgia by Rebel "Johnnies" on Nov. 27, 1863. A second set of colors was presented at Bridgeport, Ala., on May 4, 1864. As Major Miller wrote, "The Regiment received its new stand of colors, which were brought from Ohio by Colonel Warner to replace our first flags, so tattered and torn in service that they could hardly be unfurled with safety."
