Everyone,

I have been through the entire file in Citizens & Business for the AO Schultz & Company initially of Memphis, Tennessee, and all of the invoices for these pikes with Irish steel heads are done entirely for the CS Ordnance Department. Accordingly, these are NOT for flag staffs whatsoever. They are pikes and all of them were being sent to Mississippi in Spring 1862.

All of the invoices I have seen and copied for flag staffs specifically state flag staffs and they are not for the Ordnance Department, but rather the Quartermaster Department.

These pikes MAY have been used as flag staffs or remade into flag staffs but I have nothing concrete that this ever happened. If they were ever remade I doubt the long straight blades were used a the finial - not ornate enough.
