Jeff, thanks for the articles. I knew the first one was wrong in its conclusions about the flag being captured at Shiloh but the rest opens a can of worms for me to look into.

The person who seems to have ended up with the flag, Bonnie Lee Johns, may be kin to Lt. Col. Benjamin Franklin Johns, my paternal 2nd cousin, four times removed. I am not aware of anybody named Johns who served in the 9th although some served in the 7th Mississippi. However, Col. Johns, who started as Captain of Company C of the 7th was given field command of the 9th prior to the Atlanta campaign. When Col. William Harry Bishop waws KIA at Franklin he also assumed command of the 7th but was wounded shortly later at Nashville.

Whether or not Bonnie Lee Johns or F.W. Johns are related to Col. Johns I don't know but hopefully we can find out. There is a 9th Mississippi flag at an Oklahoma museum, can't recall which one but I do have a pic of it. I wonder if this is the same flag as the article.

Again, thanks!
