Re: poison springs,captured union color

The First Kansas Colored Infantry led by Colonel J.M. Williams had 463 men. They lost 65 Wounded and 117 Killed. If any "Colored" regiment lost a flag, only the First Kansas Colored Infantry was there. But I have not found any mention of a flag captured.

Cavalry detachments of the 2nd, 6th and 14th Kansas around 500 men also fought. The 18th Iowa infantry regiment (383 Men) was there as well. A total of 1,160 Union soldiers. They lost 97 Wounded, 204 Killed/Missing, 301 total. The First Kansas Colored Infantry lost the bulk of the losses.

The Four artillery pieces captured were: Two-10 pounder field guns and Two-Twelve pounder Mountain Howitzers. The 2nd Indiana Battery had one section present. The Sixth Kansas Cavalry brought along the Two-Twelve pound Mountain howitzers.

I am on the Official Records searching, (OR 34).

Have a good day,

Shawn Prouty
