Confederate Brig Gen Albert Pike presented Col. John Drew, 1st Cherokee Mounted Rifles, with a flag when the Cherokee signed the treaty with the Confederacy. I assume that flag was a first national with five red stars, signifying the so-called Five Civilized Tribes who signed treaties with the Confederacy -- Choctaw, Chickasaw, Seminole, Muscogee (Creek), and of course Cherokee. However, there is no mention of the flag having any wording in the few accounts of the event. Most of Drew's Regt was at Locust Grove and within weeks defected almost entirely and filled the 2nd and 3rd Indian Home Guard (US) so the flag may have been captured or even 'handed over'.
Presumably Col. Stand Watie's 1st Cherokee Mounted Volunteers (CS) had a flag though the only mention I recall is in early 1863 when Lt Col Robt C Parks, 1st Cherokee Mtd Vols, writes to Col. D.N. McIntosh, 1st Creek Mtd Rifles (CS) stating that their flag is two red bars with a white bar in the middle "and nothing else".
