Re: Flags of the 5th Georgia Volunteer Infantry

Jim,

Keith Bohannon, THE expert on Georgia troops, sent me this recently about the 5th GA flag at Chickamauga:

"Records and Reminiscences of Confederate Soldiers, ed by Mary Brantley Chapter UDC (Dawson, Ga: News Printing Co., 1914) p. 30 says A.F. Gore, Co. F, 5th Ga. “carried the colors at Chickamauga, which were shot out of his hands twice and shot into shreds; not a piece left as large as your finger.”
