I cannot find a single Georgia cavalry unit serving in North Carolina in 1862 or 1863 other than the seven GA companies of the 7th Confederate Cavalry which did not even form until mid-September 1862. If this letter is indeed dated May 1862 that wasn't any Georgia troopers they were tangling with. If it is 1863, as I suspect personally (Although I cannot make out the date at all), then it has to be the 7th Confederate Cavalry. The soldier may well have gotten that day of the week incorrect when he wrote his letter.

The 7th Confederate Cavalry disbanded in 1864.
