Re: Flags captured at Drury's Bluff

I had a family ancestor how was killed in action at Cold Harbor. He was in the 25th Massachusetts (Joshua B. Prouty) (Private, Company "C".). LT. Merrick F. Prouty was also in the 25th Mass, but he was put in command of all the ordnance on Roanoke Island, North Carolina early in the war. He was in direct command of a howitzer battery that fired "With effect" at another fort in the sound. Merrick was mostly detached from the regiment and did not fight at Cold Harbor. Many believed he should have been promoted to Major, but the Colonel thought otherwise. Merrick is in the Official Records as well, he is the most popular "Prouty" out of over 200 that served.

Thank you for the hard work and excellent post!

Hope you had a great Christmas and New Years with you're family!

Shawn Prouty
