Colonel H H Jeffords 4th Mich Flag

I recently purchased a Civil War manual "The Field Manual of Evolutions of the Line" by Copee in 1862. The manual is inscribed "Presented to Col. H. H. Jeffords near Falmouth, VA". This is a great artifact of the brave Colonel Jeffords, but research as to his actions in the Wheatfield is very sketchy. So many versions on what happened to Jeffords and the 4th Mich. flag. Does anyone have any primary source accounts of Jeffords actions? I have read he was bayoneted in the chest, the abdomen, and leg? He was bayoneted a dozen times. He was shot and bayoneted. He shot a Confederate with revolver, he used his sword. His brother was with him, but had no brother in the regiment? The flag was lost or saved. Did he die in a field hospital, if so where? Ist there any other records or accounts of his actions other than Gettysburg? Does anyone have Jeffords story? All help is greatly appreciated.
