36th Ohio lost Regimental flag, Chickamauga

This was a interesting research on the Thirty-Sixth Ohio Infantry Regiment. In Peter Cozzen's "This Terrible Sound" (Chickamauga) on page 494, "In the Thirty-Sixth however, the joviality was cut short when a hasty count revealed that both the Regimental Colors and the entire color company were missing."

In OR 30, Part 2, Pages 23 and 24 state "Regimental Color, (9th Corps) was captured on the field of Chickamauga." Page 24, "One Infantry Standard was captured from a regiment of Burnside's old army."

So I decided to figure out and write down all of Burnside's old 9th Corps regiments. I covered Antietam and Fredericksburg and then compared that to all the Union regiments at the battle of Chickamauga. Well two regiments matched, the 11th Ohio and 36th Ohio. During the battle of Antietam, BG. Cox's division was called from West Virginia. His division contained, 11th-12th-23rd-28th-30th and 36th (All Ohio Infantry Regiments).

Thus, the flag in question certainly was the 36th Ohio. They were still using a old 9th Corps flag that was captured at Chickamauga.

If I am wrong and if you have any information that the 36th Ohio did not lose their Regimental flag at Chickamauga, please feel free to correct me.

Thank you for any help,
