Sorry for the silence. A death in the family (father) in early December took up a bit of time, but for the most part, my questions have been answered, so I really didn't need to post anything else!

Your answers to my questions are very much appreciated. Thank you. I have a much better understanding of the formation of a Battalion and Color Guard than I had before this thread.
I'm now wondering about the phenomenon of closing ranks when casualties are suffered. I have a rough idea of how this happened, but not a complete idea. I may start a new thread about this soon.
