I have the 4th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment (Union) losing their "Colors" to the 8th Confederate Cavalry (Company A.) (Page 281)
This was BG. Edward Moody McCook's Western Atlanta Raid on the Macon RR. MG Wheeler found out and sent forces to stop BG McCook's raiders.
BG McCook's command.
1st Brigade: 8th Iowa Cavalry (Captured and Colors) (Ross's Texas Cavalry Brigade captured the colors).
4th Kentucky (Mounted Infantry), certainly lost colors but no say in the book. The entire regiment was captured, a large part and then a small part later (Capt West and 100 men). I would certainly believe they lost colors as well.
1st Tennessee Cavalry (Colonel Brownlow) doubtful on losing any colors, escaped.
2nd Brigade:
2nd Indiana Cavalry Regiment: Yes lost "Regimental Colors" (Ross's Texas Cavalry brigade)
4th Indiana Cavalry Regiment: Nothing on losing any colors, just like the 2nd Indiana they lost many men.
1st Wisconsin Cavalry Regiment: No flags mentioned.
Now BG. McCook's Cavalry Brigade broke into three groups when they retreated. Some were captured at "Philpott's Ferry" while trying to cross over the Chattahoochee River. The Battle is called "Brown's Mill", on July 30th, 1864.
Ross's Cavalry Brigade the 3rd Texas Cavalry and 27th Texas Cavalry would have captured the colors. The 4th Tennessee Cavalry(CSA) along with the 8th Texas Cavalry also attacked from another direction. Wheeler was with Humes and they attacked from the North, while Ross attacked from the west. Ironic, that both 4th Tennessee Cavalry regiment (CSA-USA) fought each other.
