It was established a long time ago that WD#171 is not the battle flag of the 32nd Cav. Battalion, Howard’s research and it is pretty solid, to keep repeating claiming new found evidence is useless.
It is also known that detachments (no matter how small or large) of Regiments carried the Regiments Battle Flag at some battles. To eliminate the ID on the bases that only a detachment was at one battle or another, I think would be a mistake.
I don’t recall that WD#171 was the posable battle flag of the 22nd VA Cav. , however there were so many unmarked flags taken in this time period, I guess anything is posable but outside the fact that they were at Tom’s Brook what evidence is the basses for your guess? I have the 22nd loosing their battle flag a Ninevah, VA. (a ANV variant).
WD#171 (34th or 36th VA Cav. Battalion) was captured farther north in the valley, not at Tom’s Brook.
Thanks for the order of battle info.
Happy Trails!
