Since you and Greg searched through Howard’s research file up in PA, do either of you recall seeing in his ANV files a note correcting the ID on WD#171 on his data sheet as claimed in this thread by Joe? The copy I have states the flag was captured along with 52 prisoners, 23 livestock, Winchester VA in the area Town Run Creek where Millwood Pike and Front Royal Pike crosses. The MoC has it captured near Woodstock, VA., as many of the other smaller battles around Winchester are included as part of the Winchester Campaign, such as Toms Creek.
When Rebecca Rose was verifying flag data for her book an update on WD#171 would have been corrected if Howard had bought into their story line on the 34th. What say you?****
I was incorrect on Toms Brook being part of the Winchester campaign, It should read Toms Branch.
The Mass. Cav. also ID the flag as the 32nd Cav. Battalion, which is incorrect and the flag ID on capture number is incorrect.
