You really have to be careful these days. Just a month ago, I visited one of my customer's websites. Some of you may know in my "day job", I sell machine tools in Louisiana. Well... I visited my customer's website and was just browsing and went to the "Contact" page. On the contact page was a "billboard ad", at the top of the page that appeared to be a link to another site for my industry. Just from clicking on that link, I got a virus that was like nothing I've ever seen. It was monitoring keystrokes, altering webpages on my online banking site, etc.

To fend off an identity theft problem, I had to reformat the hard drive on my work notebook computer, change my login, bank account number and ATM card and PIN. Turns out this was some kind of Eastern European generated virus that hit England about a year ago. I'm also watching my bank accounts and credit reports frequently.

I'm fairly proficient with computers and take security very seriously, but in this case, my McAfee virus software didn't catch it or stop it and all I did was click on an ad.
