The Sons of Erin flag was not the regimental banner according to what the unit Ltc wrote (Randall McGavock) in what has been published as his diary/memoir. It was only a company flag. He did not describe the regimental banner however but he was very specific in stating that the green flag with the CS First National on the reverse side was not the regimental flag.

This flag was not taken at Fort Donelson either - it was left behind at Fort Henry when the garrison pulled out on February 6, 1862.
