I can’t speak for the others but I know and respect their work. If you had visited my web site you will find that your statement “But from what I understand and they only make flags in nylon and cotton” is incorrect.

I do make flags for some customers who wish to fly historical flags on a daily bases outdoors, I recommend that they be made out of a nylon bunting or better yet, our spun polyester bunting, they hold up to the weather much better then our natural fiber bunting.

For historically correct flags, I use a Natural Fiber (Dixie) Cotton Bunting, grown in the South, milled in the South. I also hand paint Natural Fiber Silk flags, both have passed muster in the reenactment community for the Rev War, War of 1812, Mexican-American War, Civil War, Indian Wars, & Spanish American War, also flags for museums, movies, etc., for the last 20 some odd years.

I do use other material when called for, a natural cotton sheeting to synthetic silk custom made in a period dress material pattern.

I don’t use wool bunting because most craft weavers can seem to get it right. The one weaver I use to buy from, made the wool bunting for the repairs of the Star Spangled Banner but now she finds she can make more money by weaving other historical material. The so called wool bunting now in use by some flag makers is 50% or more petroleum made material blended with wool yarn. The Vally Forge Flag Company stopped using it because it could not pass the U. S. Government safety standards passed by Congress.
