I have no idea of his quarters, but, in this case, the Color Sergeant was assigned to the Field & Staff.

Joseph L. Campbell, age 21, Private, Capt. Robert C. Foster's Company, 1st Regiment Tennessee Infantry,* enlisted May 25, 1861 at Camp Cheatham by Col. B. R. Johnson for 12 months, re-enlisted May 1, 1862 at Corinth for 2 years, severely wounded at Murfreesboro, Tenn. December 31, 1862, captured at Stone's River/Murfreesboro January 5, 1863, , forwarded to Nashville January 24, 1863, thence to Camp Morton, Indianapolis, Ind., Color Sergeant, arrived City Point, Va. for exchange, April 2, advanced to 3rd Corporal, n.d., recorded on the Jan/Feb, 1863 muster roll as transferred to Non Commissioned Staff, listed as Sergeant, Color Guard, recorded as on Furlough on a record of the Confederate States Hospital, Petersburg, Va., April 19, 1863, recorded on Company Muster Roll dated January 9, 1864 as Killed, no other information

* This company subsequently became Company C, 1st (Field's) Regiment Tennessee Infantry
