I did a Google search and found only one match - that NJ newspaper article in the link in my previous post. I'm sure it was the same info you found - it was probably just taken whole from the KY paper. Here is the info as it appeared in the NJ paper:

One of John Morgan’s Veterans Married
Flemingsburg, Ky., May [?] 1 -
William Bowen, known in history as the barefoot color bearer of Gen. John Morgan's Confederate Brigade, has been married to Miss Maggie Kyne. The first pair of shoes he ever wore were taken from the feet of a dead Federal soldier, whom he slew at Cynthiana with his flagstaff in a battle there in 1863 [?]. His ex-comrades in arms remembered him handsomely.

The version I could see online was so poor quality and so pixelated that it was barely legible, and I wasn't sure about the two dates. Did the piece you saw say 1863 or 1864?
