Re: Writings of "Ben Ford" on guns

Just sayin' regarding this flag:

1) We have no evidence at all that this flag was captured with Rucker during the Battlle of Nashville. I do have evidence that the flag taken with him was the Mobile Depot flag of the 12th Tennessee Cavalry CSA (taken by the 12th Tennessee Cavalry USA).

2) The flag taken with Rucker has been stated as being "the flag of Rucker's Brigade" in some sources. How did the Yankees know that? The Yankees captured in Miller's Cornfield at Antietam the regimental flag of the 1st Texas Infantry and "the brigade flag." There was no such thing as a Texas Brigade flag. The 1st Texas lost TWO flags that day, their ANV wool/cotton issue and their state flag. There are other accounts of "brigade" flags being taken when these were far more often than not just regimental colors. Again, the Yankees would not know a CS brigade flag if it bit them in the butt for the most part. Few CS brigades had special flags before 1864 and after that they were only used by the Army of Tennessee. A couple of these were captured at Franklin and Nashville.

3) There is NO evidence that Forrest allowed for ANY special flags in his command. Where is that order, letter, diary account? Where is that from ANY officer or soldier of his command?

4) General officers in the CS Army serving in the field pretty much had escort companies as did brigade commanders who were not general officers. A few had flags; Forrest's Escort had two that I know of. Most of the escort flags were simply whatever national flag was being used at the time.

5) Just because there is a Rucker's Brigade flag in Alabama that resembles the flag in discussion does not mean that the flag under discussion is for the same unit. Where is the documentary proof of that?

Again, just sayin'
