can't thank you enough for sharing the photo of the long lost 5th Kentucky Infantry battle flag with us! We have been hoping for many years that it would turn up, and it is wonderful to see it in such great condition. Thanks to my good friend Geoff Walden for letting me know about the photo! BTW, the source for most of the information you posted from a previous writing of mine is from Ed Porter Thompson's "History of the Kentucky Orphan Brigade", so it is a great reference.

The 5th Kentucky holds a special place in my heart as I had four gg-grandfathers and over two dozen gg-uncles who served as "Ragamuffins" in the original one year organization of 1861-62, and the "Sang Diggers" of the reorganized 5th that would go on to serve with the Orphan Brigade and carry the flag that you now have.
