50th Maryland Militia mystery solved

About two months ago when I posted on here, that I was going to dig on the internet newspapers, I found a very interesting article.

At the small skirmish of "New Creek, Maryland" Col Vaughn had two companies of his "Third Tennessee Infantry Regiment" Col. A.P. Hill had two of companies of his "13th Virginia Infantry Regiment".

So the question had long been who captured the 50th Maryland Militia's flag??

Well a former soldier named "A.H. Bullock" his company had captured the "First Flag" at New Creek Maryland. So, now that I had a name, I then went on the National Archives soldier/sailor website and checked.

Turns out that A.H. Bullock was a private in the 13th Virginia, company "A" and thus they captured the flag. Also the two artillery pieces captured were "Four Pounders" from the "Eckhart Light Artillery."

The newspaper source: Bristol News, Feb 18th, 1870, Image 3.

I went on the "National Tribune Newspaper" first, 1836-1927 (If I remember) everytime I set it for "1861 and up" it would keep going back to 1836.

Well that ends the mystery, so sorry Gregg, the Third Tennessee infantry regiment did not captured the flag, but least we have the truth finally.

Have a great weekend, I will continue searching and searching the online newspapers!
