With all due respect to your years of flag research, I believe you are mistaken concerning the current location of the 10th VA's TWO Virginia flags.

The flag currently on display at the Harrisonburg-Rockingham Historical society is, based on all available current historical documents, the FIRST Virginia flag used by the 10th VA. Without going into all the details (please refer to my posting to Mr. Biggs), the flag was issued to the regiment in October 1861 and retired early in 1864. It was returned to the family of Col. E. T. H. Warren and in August 1964 donated to the HRHS by a Warren descendant.

The flag currently on display at the Chancellorsville Battlefield Park is the SECOND Virginia flag of the 10th VA. It was carried by the regiment from Saunder's Field to Fisher's Hill, excepting Spotsylvania Court House; Shank was in the hospital at Staunton. (The regiment's Confederate battleflag was carried on 10 and 12 May.) This second flag was secreted by Shank with a farmer near Fisher's Hill and later delivered to a Shank descendant. It remained in the family until donated to the National Park Service in Fall 1981.
