Re: A DuPage County Guidon to be Restored

My father has come into possession of the Union guidon captured by his Great Uncle James Ferguson. This is the flag described in “The Cavalier” (James Ferguson is buried in the mausoleum of the Army of Tennessee in Metairie Cemetery, NOLA).
It is currently rolled and they dare not unroll it for fear of its condition (unknown). We need to find an excellent restoration expert who can do this for us. My father already approached the Museum of the Confederacy in Richmond, but they were unwilling to restore unless we a) paid for it and b) let them keep it. Since this flag came from the other (Western) theater, my father is continuing to look.
Can you tell us how you have gone about finding someone to restore your guidon? Do you have some sources that we can query?
Thank you
Ted Cole (USA, Ret)
