George,

One last thing - since Forrest worked for Richard Taylor in September 1864 when he attacked Sulphur Branch Trestle et al it would make sense that any flags he captured be sent to Taylor. Thus when Taylor surrendered the 9th Indiana Cavalry's flag was there and mistakenly attributed to the Red River Campaign by the Union account. At this time Kirby Smith commanded the Trans-Mississippi anyway.
