Wayne & Terry,
None of the surviving flags associated with the 1st La. come close to the
description given in the newspaper articles concerning Clancey.
There are 3 battleflags but none show any extensive damage.
None of the surviving flags were captured at Gettysburg. All
predate that engagement.
The "Clancey" flag may still be out there....somewhere.
Clancey's service record makes no mention of his ever carrying
a flag or saving one at Gettysburg.
