I really don't know. As you say the battery did not join the ANV until 1865. I will have to ask Jeff about that. The reason I am trying to find out what type of flag they used is that I and some friends are artillery reenactors. We are going to assist the Botetourt Artillery, SCV Camp in Buchanan, Virginia in a living history in April, 2007. We are researching uniforms right now but my assignment was to find out about the flag. We hope to get it right for the people in Botetourt County when we do this. An aquaintance of mine says that some of the Staunton Depot flags were slightly rectangular. I will have to delve further into it. Also a question comes to mind. Prior to serving as artillery the company was Co. H of the 28th Virginia Infantry. Would they have taken a southern cross battle flag as well as a Virginia state flag to Mississippi with them? I know that with the destruction of so many Confederate colors it is quite difficult to find records of many units' colors. again, thanks for your assistance. It is greatly appreciated.
I have read that some of the later flags were made of cotton flannel. Would this be an appropriate material for our seamstress to use when she makes our flag for us or is another material indicated?
Another question. As to uniforms would the battery have gotten new uniform issue upon returning to Virginia? And what would the uniform issue have been in Mississippi?
