Thanks for the kind words, but its a little like looking for the proverbial "needle in a haystack". I have found no "official" listing of any units' Color Guard!!
After-action reports often state that the "entire Color Guard was cut down", but they seldom mention any of these
brave men's names.
The Compiled Service Records are also remiss in naming more than a handfull of these soldiers.
Most of what I have found comes from memoirs, letters, and newspaper accounts. These sources are scattered and when found prove to be very time consuming (and costly) to search.
My research is by no means anywhere near being finished!!
Any help by the readers of this board would be greatly appreciated. If "grandpa" was a Color Bearer, Ensign, or member of a Color Guard; please let me know.
