Re: 63rd Va. &Hardee Pattern Flag

Ken,

An acquaintance showed me a reproduction flag he had made for the 58th. He states this banner was of the 58th. Where he got his information, he did not divulge. I too have never heard of the 58th N.C. or the 63rd Va. having a Hardee flag. Jeff Weaver, who has written a history of the 58th N.C., says he hasn't either. Jeff, who has a reproduction of a 63rd Va. flag based on an existing flag of the 54th Virginia, says the original 63rd flag was lost in a flood in 1910. Jeff's flag is of an ANV pattern that is rectangular. I put this post on here in hopes that someone might verify or rebut this Hardee flag. Jeff's ancestors, as well as some of mine, served in the 63rd Virginia. And, thanks for the bit about the Colt rifles. I did not know this. My SCV Camp #2079, Co. C, 63rd Va. Infantry"Marshall's Rifles" has formed an color guard. At present we use a flag of pattern such as Jeff has. I will have to look into obtaining reproductions of the colt rifle for our group.
