Kentucky was once part of Virginia and settled by Virginians, who were overwhelmingly English in ancestry - so I don't see anything Irish for the creation of this KSG flag either.

The South was far more English than anything else with pockets of Scots and Irish here and there. Its antebellum culture was patterned entirely on English culture as well with the class system, books read, etc..
